rIQ™ is an automated system that uses the thermal immersion method, as defined by the standard ASTM E1967, to measure the refractive index of microscopic glass fragments.  The system, which incorporates many years of experience with the analysis of glass, allows the user to analyze the refractive index of multiple glass fragments simultaneously and with sophisticated analytical techniques.  Statistical analysis methods can also be applied to the data and the instrument is also designed to be user friendly with a short learning curve. 

rIQ™ is offered as a standalone package, as an add-on package to CRAIC Technologies microspectrophotometers or as an upgrade package for older units already in the field.  A standalone package consists of a phase contrast microscope, a high resolution digital camera, the optical interface, a thermal stage, the controlling electronics and the rIQ™ software.  The add-on package can be integrated with many CRAIC Technologies microspectrophotometers models, both past and present, to allow them to measure the color, absorbance microspectra™, fluorescence microspectra™ and the refractive index of the smallest of glass fragments.

Spectral Surface Mapping with Microscopic Resolution

CRAIC Technologies introduces Spectral Surface Mapping™ (S2M™) software.  This gives a user the ability to map the UV-visible-NIR absorbance, reflectance or fluorescence spectral response, point-by-point, with microscopic spatial resolution.

San Dimas, CA – May 1, 2014-- CRAIC Technologies, the world leading innovator of microanalysis solutions, is proud to announce Spectral Surface Mapping™ (S2M™) capabilities for its UV-visible-NIR microspectrophotometers. S2M™ gives CRAIC microspectrometer users the ability to map the spectral responses across of surfaces of their samples  point-by-point.  With microscopic spatial resolution, surface profiles can be created using UV-visible-NIR transmission, absorbance, emission, fluorescence and polarization microspectral data. S2M™ can even create maps from Raman microspectral data from the CRAIC Apollo™ Raman microspectrometer. CRAIC microspectrometers can now created highly detailed spectral maps with micron scale resolution rapidly and automatically.

Our customers wanted the ability to automatically survey and characterize the entire surface of samples by their spectral characteristics. Spectral Surface Mapping™ is a plug-in software module used with CRAIC Technologies Lambdafire™ microspectrometer software. When employed with CRAIC Technologies microspectrometers with programmable stages, S2M™ allows a user to automatically take spectral measurements with user-defined mapping patterns that reach to the movement limits of the stage itself. With the ability to measure up to a million points, high definition maps of the spectral response of the surface of a sample may be generated. And because of the flexibility and power of the software, the maps may be from transmission, absorbance, reflectance, fluorescence, emission and even polarization data. Raman spectral responses may even be collected and mapped when used with CRAIC Technologies Apollo™ Raman microspectrometers. S2M™ gives even more power to the scientist and engineer to study the entire surface of their samples by several different methods and in the highest level of detail.

Thin Film Thickness Measurements of Sub-Micron Sampling Areas from CRAIC Technologies

Calibrated Glass and Oil Standards for Glass Refractive Index Measurements

CRAIC Technologies announces the availability of glass and oil standard reference materials set to calibrate glass refractive index measurement instruments.

San Dimas, CA (January 27, 2014)– CRAIC Technologies, a leading innovator of UV-visible-NIR microanalysis solutions, is proud to announce the introduction of its Glass Refractive Standards set.  This set is used to calibrate instruments, such as CRAIC Technologies rIQ™ , that are designed to measure the refractive index of microscopic fragments of glass and glass-like materials.  The Refractive Index Glass Standards set consists of both calibrated glass samples and immersion liquids calibrated for refractive index versus temperature.  The glass materials consist of optical glass in sizes suitable for crushing and use with rIQ™ and other automated glass refractive index measurement systems.  The oils are calibrated and also designed for use with automated glass refractive index measurement systems.  These standard reference materials are designed to be in compliance with the standard test methodology defined by ASTM 1967.

“The current supplies of glass reference materials are nearly exhausted. CRAIC Technologies, with the introduction of the rIQ™ automated refractive index measurement system for glass, needed to develop a new source of reference materials for our customers” says Dr. Paul Martin, president of CRAIC Technologies.  “Our engineers have created this set of standard reference materials.  This set is designed to aid in the calibration of instruments like rIQ™ and as such have been well characterized in terms of their refractive index and in accordance to the test methodology ASTM 1967.”

The default set of standards consists of a number of glass materials and high purity silicone oils.  The glass standard reference materials cover a refractive index range of 1.4800 all the way to 1.5400.  This range is also covered by the oils.  Additionally, the oils have a thermal coefficient and a delta of that coefficient that meets the ASTM criteria for these types of tests.  As part of the test methodology defined by ASTM 1967, the oil and glass standards are used to calibrate the glass refractive index measurement system prior to casework analysis.  As such, this set represents a new, well characterized source for glass refractive index instrument calibration.
